Junior Raya Arora makes her pick for 2022 MCPS Student Member of the Board (SMOB). Students were asked to vote for the new SMOB during their English class. "The SMOB is so valuable because they can amplify student voices in the county's decision making," Arora said. This year's candidates are junior Baba Cisse from Albert Einstein High School and junior Arvin Kim from Walt Whitman High School. Both candidates have campaigned around improving mental health resources, school safety, and diversity.

Vibrant displays of student artwork line up down Main Street. From paintings to collages, students express their creativity through various forms of visual art. "I love walking down Main Street and seeing all the colorful art," junior Gabby Cabrera said. The 2022 Senior Art Show was held on Sunday, March 13th from 6-8 PM on Main Street. Each year, the art department holds a Senior Art Show to celebrate the work of AP/IB senior artists. "It's really emotional," said junior photography student Emma Hubbard, "A lot of my friends are graduating this year and seeing their work displayed is really satisfying in a sad sort of way".

Students decorate a colorful poster for Valentides, the annual Tide tradition to celebrate Valentine's Day. Students and staff can write a kind message, a "Valentide", to someone they care about and those messages will appear in this month's issue of the Tide newspaper. Messages will be accepted from February 7 to 11. "I can't wait to see all the valentides," junior Cindy Chen said. "It's a very sweet gesture."

MCPS faces growing county-wide bus driver shortages. 92 bus routes were unexpectedly canceled, leaving hundreds of students without a ride to school. Many buses will have to make multiple routes to accommodate the lack of drivers. "A lot of students have to wait over an hour after school just to get picked up," junior Kelsey Lee said.
