Richard Montgomery varsity girls volleyball fell to undefeated Churchill at home Tuesday night. The Rockets were defeated at home three sets to one, making an overall record of 5-3.
Lack of communication from the girls in the first set led to unforced errors, culminating in an 11-25 loss. In the next set, RM, led by senior captains Abby Hernandez, Linda Qiu, and Briana Mason, came together and defeated Churchill with a score of 25-22 in favor of the Rockets.
Despite this promising result, the team lacked focus in key moments in the remaining minutes of the match, which contributed to Churchill’s back to back 15-25 wins in the decisive third and fourth sets.
“I think we were mentally down and weren’t motivated to actually fight through the game,” Hernandez said. Rockets varsity now have two losses in a row. “I think we just have to work on being consistent,” Hernandez continued. Consistency was seen during the Rockets five-game winning streak, which ended with last week’s loss against Blair.
“We can’t get down on ourselves when we see a team who is very competitive,” said Hernandez. “We have to remember that we are just as good as them.”
Rockets volleyball will play away against a strong Whitman team on Friday. “We can be a very strong team and we are perfectly capable to take on any good team,” sophomore Brooke Richman said, “Hopefully we all bring our A-game and bring home a win.”
JV girls volleyball did defeat Churchill Tuesday night, making them 8-0 on the season. The JV team were a dominant force in the competition. Individual efforts were united to produce an astounding performance for the RM JV volleyball team, defeating Churchill two sets to nil. JV look to stay undefeated at Whitman on Friday.
