The RM softball team has started their preparations for the playoffs after one of their most historic seasons in recent history. The team finished 11-5, won the division for the first since 2010, and rode a 8 game mid-season win streak.
“I think we proved that we are a solid and competitive team,” junior Maddie Little said. The team fought hard throughout the entire regular season, including a huge 13-3 win over Walter Johnson Saturday, April 27.
“I think our team chemistry and competitiveness has really helped us throughout the season,” sophomore Cassie Arakawa said. The team returned tons of talent from last season and was able to capitalize on this. “We work well as a team and make each-other better,” Arakawa said.
Another thing that has led to the success of the team is the impact of the seniors, the team has nine seniors in all and every single one plays a role. “I want to make the most of the last few games I will ever have with these special seniors,” Little said.
As the season goes on, the team continues to put their best foot forward in practice. “We are focusing on a lot of game specific situations so we are prepared for all the different things that could happen,” Arakawa said. The team is ready for any challenge that is put infront of them for their upcoming playoff run.
Heading into playoffs, the team’s impressive record earned them the number one seed in the region. Earning them a first round bye. Despite the impressive season, the region is no easy feat for the team. “It’s gonna be really fun playing with some more competitive teams,” Cathy Garcia Camargo said.
With Einstein’s win over Kennedy, the Rockets are set to face Einstein Saturday, May 9 at 4:00 PM in the regional semifinals. The Rockets have set their sights high, “I want to extend this season as long as I can,” Little said. The team has bonded all season long, and does not want the season to come to an end short of their goals.
With their historic regular season, the team wants to continue this historic success into playoffs, hoping to make history and be the first group in RM softball history to make it deep into the Maryland state playoffs. “I am looking forward to going the furthest we have ever gone in the playoffs in RM softball history,” Little said.
