Field Hockey celebrates their Senior Night

Field+Hockey+celebrates+their+Senior+Night

On October 6, the RM Varsity Field Hockey team dominated their home game with a 9-0 win against the Albert Einstein Titans. In the win over Einstein, RM was lead by their dominant seniors as they demonstrated the results of the past few years of training. Seemingly celebrating Senior Night themselves, the seniors scored 7 of the 9 total goals: Vanessa Barnes – 3 goals, Caroline Nesbitt, Chloe Diman, Rosa Boehler, Zaynah Moen – 1 goal each. The atmosphere quickly became filled with the excitement of the game and everyone appeared proud of their final result. “I feel very happy about today’s game,” said Varsity Head Coach Brooks shortly after the game.

“It was so fun today!” the game’s hat-trick scorer senior, Vanessa Barnes, remarked in her reaction to the Senior Night celebration before the game. “It was especially funny to hear everyone’s memories and it was great to reflect our memories as a team on how far we’ve gone together.”

For many of the players it was not just merely about the winning this game, but it held greater significance as it was Senior Night. “It’s really thrilling to watch our seniors perform so well. There is a lot to learn from them,” explained JV player sophomore Addie Carr, “but I am already worried about them having to leave the team at the end of the season.”

Being a senior on a high school sports team is a mix of complex emotions, especially for those who have played since freshman year. “It’s kind of bittersweet. I guess it’s really sad because as a freshmen you are looking forward for the years ahead of you, but as a senior it is like your journey as a player is over,” confessed Barnes.

The seniors this year have been working well together and they have enjoyed both the Senior Night celebration as well as the season as a whole. “We have a lot of seniors on our team, and they are all very close with one another, so it makes playing a lot easier and fun,” said Coach Brooks.

“We played really well,” claimed Barnes, “I said this during half time, but I think the quality of a team is determined by their versatility. Almost all the forwards got a shot on goal today, which proved that we are a really good team.”
