As the music world prepared for the 2026 Grammy awards, listeners waited in anticipation for emerging artists, developing genres and the clashing music styles.

The Grammy Awards are presented annually by the Recording Academy and are known to be one of the most prestigious honors in the music industry. They recognize outstanding performances and production across a wide variety of musical genres throughout the past year. Here are some of our predictions:

The Grammy Award category for the Best New Artist identifies the new generation of impactful musicians. Getting nominated, let alone winning this category can significantly raise an artist’s profile, streaming numbers and press coverage. The nominees for Best New Artist include Addison Rae, Alex Warren, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, Olivia Dean, Somber and The Marías.

There have been mixed opinions on who will win this category, considering that some believe an experienced musical background and songwriting talent should be rewarded while others favor artists currently popular on social media. “Leon Thomas should win the award for best new artist as he is an amazing songwriter and has written multiple famous songs for movies and TV shows, including ‘Victorious’ which he also stars in,” junior Sydney Hetzel said. “However I think either KATSEYE, Alex Warren, or Sombr will win based on current popularity. They’re also good artists but I think their virality will be what sets them apart from more experienced musicians like Leon Thomas.” Hetzel’s observation highlights a common tension in music awards. Artists who have been in the music industry for a long time like Leon Thomas may have strong songwriter credentials and experiences, but in the past Grammy awards have often favored artists who have gone viral through social media.

One of the most anticipated awards at the 2026 Grammys includes the Album of the Year Grammy which is not just about a few standout songs–this award recognizes the artist’s effort that goes into creating an entire album, with each track carefully crafted to fit into a bigger narrative. Through its themes, lyrics, production and musical craftsmanship, the award evaluates components that make an album truly unforgettable. The following albums that have been nominated for Album of the Year include “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” by Bad Bunny, “CHROMAKOPIA” by Tyler the Creator, “GNX” by Kendrick Lamar, “Let God Sort Em Out” by Clipse, Pusha T and Malice, “Man’s Best Friend” by Sabrina Carpenter, “MAYHEM” by Lady Gaga, “MUTT” by Leon Thomas and “SWAG” by Justin Bieber.

Carpenter’s album “Man’s Best Friend” illustrates Carpenter’s musical growth, being more cohesive and narrative-driven than her previous work. Carpenter explored with unique retro, pop and upbeat melodies that seem to differ from the other nominated albums. “In my opinion ‘Man’s Best Friend’ stood out to me the most. I think Sabrina Carpenter’s fame has continued to grow and this album really shows how that’s not going to stop anytime soon,” junior Helena Sonnier said. In essence, “Manchild” positions Sabrina Carpenter as an artist who is not only evolving but also solidifying her place in today’s top music industry.

Song of the Year at the Grammys celebrates the songwriting that captures emotions, stories and leaves a lasting impression–whether it be through lyrics, melody or overall composition. This year’s Song of the Year contenders feature “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga, “Anxiety” by Doechii, “APT” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars, “DtMF” by Bad Bunny, “Golden” by HUNTR/X, ‘”luther” by Kendrick Lamar with SZA, “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter and “WILDFLOWER” by Billie Eilish.

Bad Bunny’s track “DtMF” showcases emotional depth and meaningful lyrics that resonate strongly with listeners. “It has lots of mixed emotions like regret signaled in the song” junior Christina Pineda said.

It is clear that 2025 has brought an explosion of musical talent. From rising stars delivering some of their strongest work yet, the industry has seen an incredible range of creativity and impact. Every genre has been touched by new ideas, new voices and new energy. These contributions not only have entertained artists but also pushed the boundaries of what music can express. Looking ahead, the work put out this year set a high standard for the future, promising more unforgettable work for the year to come.
