On Jan. 5, 2025, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, better known as artist Bad Bunny, released his seventh studio album:“Debi Tirar Mas Fotos.” Over the years, Bad Bunny has showcased a variety of genres, from trap and upbeat reggaeton shown in album “X100PRE,” “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Mañana” and “YHLQMDLG,” to a modern, indie pop, in “Un Verano Sin TI.” In “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos,” Bad Bunny is able to experiment with all kinds of sounds and continues to push musical boundaries. This album demonstrates an evolution of his music style, incorporating elements from his past work while still experimenting with new beats.
“Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” is a combination of salsa, plena (a folklore genre that features Caribbean, Spanish and African beats), reggaeton, indie pop, salsa, Latin Trap, tropical beats and cumbia. With this release, Bad Bunny continues to maintain his position as one of the most influential global artists in contemporary Latin music.
With two single releases on Dec. 26, 2024, “El Club” and “PIToRRO DE COCO” sparked rumors of a possible new album the following year. On Wednesday, Dec. 4th, when Spotify Wrapped was released, Bad Bunny emerged as the most streamed artist of the year for many listeners. This reveal was accompanied by a video message from him where he teased the reveal of a larger project leaving fans in utter shock. In the final week of 2024, Spotify showed a pre-released listing of the album with “El Club” and “PIToRRO DE COCO” included. Many fans speculated by the cover being 2 white chairs in a tropical setting that the album was going to be similar to his 2022 release “Un Verano Sin Ti,” which featured tropical beats mixed with reggaeton and a Trap Latin rhythm. While “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” evokes a similar feeling of warmth, nostalgia, and liveliness, making both albums perfect for a laid back summer].
On the album opener, “NUEVAYoL,” Bad Bunny demoed a 1975 salsa hit, “Un Verano en Nueva York,” by the group El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico. I personally loved the collision of old Borricua salsa beats with modern reggaeton rap. The song sets the tone for an exciting mood through the rhythm’s diverse and vibrant beat. “UNUEVAYoL” allows you to experience fun times, like celebrating traditions, holidays and family gatherings with friends. Overall, the mood allows for dancing and having a good time.
From the album, some of his most upbeat songs in my opinion are the second and third tracks: “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” and “VOY A LLeVARTE PA PR.” In these songs, Bad Bunny steps outside of his comfort zone and experiments with salsa. Through its catchy and modern beat, the song captures a feeling of connection and joy through music and movement. Like “NUEVAYoL,” the second and third tracks convey a time for a celebration, highlighting how music can create lasting memories. These songs are a perfect anthem for parties, celebrations, or any situation where the power of dance and music can bring people together.
However Bad Bunny also keeps some of his style the same, incorporating a signature mix of trap and reggaeton. From songs like “EoO” and “KLOuFRENS” to tracks like “KETU TeCRE” and “VeLDA.” “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” showcases bold and playful beats that are fun to listen to. To add a bit more fun in the album, Bad Bunny, affectionately called Benito by fans, featured RaiNao in the song, “PERFuMITO NUEVO.” This song is one of my favorites because of RaiNaos collaboration on the track. RaiNao is a PuertoRican singer-songwriter who is known for her jazzy and reggaeton mixed music. Her soft, harmonious voice mixed with Bad Bunny’s deep voice make a great combination, especially with the strong shifted beats in the background.
