RM Defeats Whitman 42-8
Improves to 3-2 on the Season
October 4, 2022
Richard Montgomery Varsity Football went on the road to take on the Whitman Vikings this past Friday, Sept. 30. Whitman came into the game winless on the season, but the Rockets didn’t take them lightly in the slightest. After having their game the previous week canceled due to Northwest High Schoo forfeiting, the Rockets came out firing and went up 28-0 at the half. It was total domination on each side of the ball for the Rockets, as Whitman could not get anything going.
The second half was no different. The Rockets went mostly to the running game to try to burn out the clock. The Vikings didn’t put any points on the scoreboard until late in the fourth quarter when the game was already all but over. The game ended with a final score of 42-8, to give the Rockets their second win of the season. This improved their record so far this season to 3-2, including Northwest’s forfeit from last Friday’s game.
Although the game was played in some rough weather conditions, the away crowd showed up and showed out in their red, white, and blue-themed clothing. They left their mark on the game with a couple of “Let’s go Rockets!” chants throughout the game, led by the always-energetic cheer squad.
“It was kind of rainy, but it was still a fun game and we won,” senior Akmal Rupasingha said of the experience. RM will face the Quince Orchard Cougars in a home battle this upcoming Friday at Roy Lester Stadium.
