Richard Montgomery field hockey dominated the game against the Rockville Rams on Wednesday night, winning 6-0. In a stunning display of dominance, the Rockets grabbed the first game over their cross-city rivals.
Sheer determination by the Rockets kept Rockville almost entirely out of RM’s half of the field. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Morgan only had to save two shots all game. Coach Brooks felt that the seniors played up to their full potential for the first game of the year.
One such senior is captain Devon Goetz, who led the score line with three goals. “I feel a responsibility as captain to not necessarily be scoring, but definitely assisting and helping out in any way that I can.
“We are a really high-energy team, we are always yelling and cheering, and I think that definitely translates into game-time energy, and you can always see it on the field,” Goetz continued, “We’re always running, we’re always hustling, and that’s probably our greatest strength.”
For RM, it was the perfect start to the season. “It couldn’t have been any better,” senior Elizabeth Conway said. “A shutout in front of the home crowd against our rival school is the absolute best way tonight could have gone.”
Field hockey will play away against Gaithersburg this Friday, and look to keep this momentum going. “If we play like we did tonight, Gaithersburg won’t know what hit them,” Conway went on. “We’re just going to stay excited and stay pumped, we can challenge any team in the county, including Gaithersburg.”
