PETTING GENTLY, freshman Anishka Yadav strokes the fur of therapy dog Trista as volunteers Donna Maclean and Fran Glavan chat in the background. The two are part of Fidos for Freedom, a nonprofit organization specialized in training therapy dogs in addition to service dogs for veterans with PTSD, people with mobility issues and individuals with hearing loss. Glavan’s dog, Trista, has been working as a therapy dog for over 10 years and last year, she made over 250 visits. “I had retired and I was looking for something to give back, and I heard about therapy dogs, and I thought, oh goody, I can take my dog with me,” said Glavan.

Junior Isabella Langlee is in her second year on The Tide and first year as an assistant editor for Science and Tech. She looks forward to working with her section and writing about scientific discoveries, new and old. When she’s not chasing down interviewees, she’s searching for her next snack, fast-forwarding through a movie, or dilly-dallying.
