“You’ll be done before you know it,” is something I felt like I heard countless times in high school but never believed or held meaning to. Now, as I sit here reflecting on my time in high school as a senior with two weeks left, I realized how true that was all along. Some of my best moments in high school have been both inside and outside of the classroom. From leading the student section in football games during my senior year, to working on projects with other students from all corners of RM, I’ve been able to make connections all across our school. I won’t lie, exams weeks and studying for the SAT are definitely moments from high school that I’m not too eager to relive. However, seeing my hard work during those exhausting weeks and months pay off makes my efforts completely worth it in the end.
Coming into high school at the tail end of COVID-19 distorted my expectations for high school, assuming the worst. Yet, I felt like each year surpassed the last, making more friends, connections and learning new things. If I had the opportunity to talk to my freshman year self again, I might give myself advice but I don’t think I would change anything. I think our high school years are such pivotal development years and teach us about social and learning aspects of life. I’d probably tell myself to not worry so much about the little things, they become very irrelevant to your life very quickly.
Over the course of high school, I’m definitely most proud of my growth as a person and learning how to maintain both a social and academic life, understanding how to balance and manage my time. Sometimes there’s small things I regret from high school, like not studying enough for a specific class or checking over an important assignment before submitting. But I’ve learned to accept my past mistakes and recognize that it has shaped me into the person I am today.
I think one of the biggest challenges I faced in high school was discovering who I wanted to be as a person and what I wanted to contribute to my community. I feel like as more time has passed and I’ve developed more experience and knowledge, I’ve been able to find and secure my footing so much more. I would like to thank my teachers, my friends, my counselor and all of the resources within RM for supporting me throughout high school and creating the best school environment I could possibly ask for.
