The SGA held their elections for next year’s class officers on April 23. Students had the opportunity to watch speeches from each candidate and vote during their English class. SGA students tallied the votes following the election and announced the results the next day.
For the sophomores, a total of nine students ran for the four respective positions. Isaac Fulton was elected president, Alexis Djani was elected vice president, Mateo Giaudrone was elected secretary, and Kairo Maysonet Walker was elected treasurer. The central theme amongst these candidates was making students’ voices heard. “We need a bigger and better community at RM,” Fulton said.
The incoming junior class had seven students campaign for elected positions. These officers will be responsible for helping to plan the spring prom. Mounana Dantata was elected uncontested as president, Zachary Han was elected vice president, Sophia Del Cid was elected secretary, and Mira Fei was elected treasurer. “Let’s keep up with this positive trajectory and keep striving for the ultimate goal of a fun, light, and, of course, safe school,” Dantata said.
For the senior class, their class officers play a crucial role in planning and organizing class bonding activities, such as senior sunrises and sunsets throughout the year. Rohit Chennamsetti was elected president, Ewina Chen was elected vice president, Earl Zhu was elected secretary, and Gabe Palmaira was elected treasurer. “As a graduating class, it is essential to have leaders who understand our community,” Chen said. “My vision for our class is unity, inclusivity, and progress.”
Across all positions and grade levels, some major themes emerged that all election candidates agreed were significant issues impacting the student body. Across all campaigns, candidates emphasized the importance of holding more fundraisers, unity events, transparency, and a commitment to open communication. “I’m fully committed to making our high school experience unforgettable,” Chennamsetti said. “I’m not here to make empty promises, I’m here to work hard for each and every one of you.”
