Junior Isabella Gonzales-Carranza grabs an orange hat at lunch. On Feb.19 leaders of the Heads-Up, Phones Down Contest set up a table on Main Street and handed out hats to students walking by. The contest which brings awareness to phone distractions when walking or driving, encourages students to create their own video regarding the issue. Students have to opportunity to receive 5 SSL hours and win a grand prize of a $1000 laptop. “I think it’s a really good cause to participate in,” Gonzales-Carranza said

With the semester coming to a close, sophomore Adelaide Keller studies for exams. This time is vital as grades are being finalized and semester tests are going on. "Rocket Refresh allows me to prioritize my time and study for upcoming quizzes and tests throughout the day," Keller said.

Weaving through Rocket Refresh, Senior Emily Perkins crochets her Christmas-themed hat. Rocket Refresh is a time for students to catch up on work, make up assignments, relax and do what they wish. "I really love Rocket Refresh because I can actually get a break. When I don't have too much work to do, I like to bring in my crochet work to just relax and listen to music," Perkins said.

With this school year marking her fourth year in the position, Principal Alicia Deeny has redrawn RM’s path as the first female principal in the school’s long history. Always bringing her smile and unwavering support for her students, Ms. Deeny’s effort and dedication to uplifting the community is evident. “Being the first female principal means that I have the opportunity to bring the perspective that I have and my experiences, especially growing up in the Rockville community as a woman who has, throughout my life, been the only woman doing certain things.” Ms. Deeny said.

Freshman Juliana Fire (black #10) pushes through a 2-3 defense. “Against difficult defense I try to stay composed and not panic, keep my head up so I can see the whole court and see who’s open, while working to keep my dribble low and controlled so the defense is less likely to steal it. Also, communicating with my teammates helps ensure we are all in the correct positions against the specific defense to allow us to get the ball where we want it to go," Fire said.
