Student-athletes sign to next level

With seven athletic commits in the 2025 class so far, signing day was a smashing success. On November 13th during lunch in the gym, the seven commits, surrounded by family, coaches, and friends, signed their National Letter of Intent (NLI), officially committing to their chosen school. Athletic commits officially signing were seniors Meredith Kearns, Mckinley Heaven, Corinne Howard, Charlie West, Michael Hemmig, Shelby Roth and Emma Pryor.

The gym was filled with cheers, pure laughter, and smiles. Many of the commits decorated their tables with flags, pompoms, food, and photos, as well as balloons of all different colors, in hopes of celebrating the student-athletes’ big accomplishments.

“My parents, friends and teammates were all at signing day. It meant so much to me because they have all been there and helped me along the way, especially my parents who have sacrificed so much for me to play lacrosse,” senior Meredith Kearns said.  Kearns is committed to playing Division 1 girl’s lacrosse at St. Bonaventure University and is excited for the opportunity to continue playing lacrosse at the next level. “I committed to St. Bonaventure because of the coaching staff and how involved they were with all the players,” Kearns said.

Senior Mckinley Heaven officially signed to play Division 1 soccer at the University of Maryland. Heaven was surrounded by her friends and family at the event and was happy to officially commit to the University of Maryland. “Signing day was exciting because I got to see Mckinley so happy about attending her dream school and playing soccer there,” sophomore Miller Heaven, brother of Mckinley, said. In addition to supporting his sister, Miller also aspires to play soccer at the next level and cites Mckinley as an inspiration to keep working for his dreams.

Another commit at signing day was the recent Howard University girl’s volleyball commit Corinne Howard. “It’s nice to be recognized for something that took so much hard work and effort,” senior Corinne Howard said about signing day. Howard had recently achieved her 400th career kill in Richard Montgomery’s dominant 3-0 victory in the girl’s volleyball state championship to complete the back-to-back. “I think signing day was especially monumental this year since there were so many female athletes signing from fall sports,” Howard said.

November signing day was a success, with friends and family showing their pride. “Signing day was amazing. The athletic boosters, Coach Tanya and Mr. Whitlow did a great job setting everything up and ensuring everything ran smoothly”  Kearns said.
