Though the temperature outside hung around thirty-seven degrees on December 4, inside, the auditorium was bustling with activity and energy. International Night brought together multiple cultures of our school and created an exciting performance. The crowd of over a hundred people came to watch and enjoy food from cultures around the world.
One of the highlights of the night involved the RM Dance Club performing to “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry and “Dope” by BTS, a Korean boy band. “We did well, but there were many things we could’ve improved on,” shared freshman Rebecca Jang. Freshman Nimah Nayel kept her views short; “We were fabulous.”
One of the greatly enjoyed Latina groups was Chica Latina, which appeared to have many fans in the crowd. The group’s performance was unique and expressed their culture well. “Honestly speaking I think I did well, though I kind of messed up – but I still went with it,” said senior Victoria Seo.
Another very popular performance was by the RM Breakdance club. With flashing lights and unique skills, the club wowed the audience. The members shared their experience: “We did mess up a couple of times, not a couple, twice, but I don’t think it was really noticeable by the crowd. To be on the stage, it was really hype.” From the audience, freshman Delia Termini commented that “you could just tell how hard they worked.”
The large audience enjoyed the show very much. “I think it went really well,” said junior Anna Langer. “I went last year, it was a lot of fun. I think I actually like this year’s a little bit better, there was more energy in the performances which I really liked. Also more of the food’s vegetarian.” Freshman performer Alexa Paat also observed that “it is surprising that a lot of people know about International night, even though there wasn’t a lot of announcements or posters, but a lot of people came.”
“I think it went out really great,” said junior Ornelle Faitquoi, who hosted the night and kept the crowd pumped up and energized. International Night was a big success, bringing many people together to celebrate diversity and different cultures and paving the way for a great Common Grounds Assembly to follow on December 23.
