Seniors start off final year of school with traditional breakfast

After 90 days of carefree relaxation, it was finally time to head back to school. Away went the swim trunks and goggles as the seniors donned the outfit they planned to wear on the first day of the school. For the past three years, the Class of 2016 has always wandered freely throughout the building on at the start of the year. But not this year. Instead, they started off their day with the traditional senior breakfast, one of the many advantages that they now had as those at the top of the school. In addition to the food provided, the senior t-shirts awaited students as well, laid out in rows, each with their own clever nickname on the back.

Mac Morgan was one of the first students on the scene, showing up a full half-hour before school started. “I thought it was good”, he said. “Michael Riederer did a good job of assembling the shirts.” Ashley Kapp seemed to agree, adding that “senior shirts were easy to find and the food was good.” Beyond just the shirts, the social aspect was great as well, according to Hayden Longest. “I got to catch up with a few people i hadn’t seen all summer and so just from a social standpoint i really liked it.”

Other students were not so satisfied, however. In fact, it appeared the complaints far outnumbered the compliments. The biggest complaint by far was that it was very crowded, which can be expected with the entire senior class squeezing into one cafeteria. School President Zack Khan specifically mentioned that “It was very chaotic because people would crowd around and talk to their friends, making it hard to walk around.” Another common complaint was that the event did not live up to the expectations. “It didn’t really get you excited for school,” Kapp said after her previous statement, “It was kind of just like get your shirt and breakfast and go.” Some students, such as David Zhang came up with solutions for next year remarking that “some sort of activities would’ve made the experience better.”

But in the end, it appeared that most students were just happy to be there. After 90 days of only seeing a few friends here and there, it was refreshing to see the Class of 2016 reunited once more, ready to take on any challenge their final year of high school had in store for them.
