The Richard Montgomery girls volleyball team will face Walter Johnson in the playoffs at RM on Thursday, 5 p.m., and will have to cope with key injuries.
Senior captain Abby Hernandez and sophomore Julia Finver will miss the key match-up, and RM will have to cope without their premier outside hitter in Hernandez for the match, who broke her finger in practice on Wednesday.
The Rockets have defeated Walter Johnson in straight sets during the regular season, 3-0. But junior Cathleen Kong made it clear RM could not underestimate the Wildcats.
“We have to not let our guard down because we won last time,” Kong said. “Last time, [WJ] said they had a ‘rough game’ so we have to be prepared for everything.”
To fill the void of two starters, the Rockets will look to captains Bryanna Mason and Linda Qiu, as well as sophomore Victoria Crawford.
“I have faith in my team that we’ll do really well today,” Hernandez said. “As long as we stay positive and don’t focus on the fact that two of our starters are out, I think we’ll be good.”
