Rockville’s Fourth Annual Taiwan Bubble Tea and Food Festival took place on Saturday in Rockville Town Square. Vendors selling Taiwanese food and trinkets lined the courtyard and streets. From 10 am to 4pm, performers brought K-Pop music, yoyo and martial arts to the crowd as they snacked on mochi donuts, poke bowls, stuffed buns and more. One such performer was Miyako Taiko, a local Japanese drumming group, that is dedicated to teaching the art and traditions of taiko in a supportive environment. “We were very pleased with both sets of our performances and we love seeing people dancing, cheering with us, or simply enjoying our work,” Paris Huang, the lead coordinator of the organization at the event, said. “The powerful and joyful sound of drums always draws crowds; that’s also the reason taiko has been used in Japan for festivals for thousands of years even to this day.”
