Saturn, a time-based social networking app, was originally introduced to the RM student body in November.

Saturn, a time-based social networking app, was originally introduced to the RM student body in November. Saturn’s objective is to help high schoolers stay organized and keep track of their classes.

Saturn has features that include a scheduled calendar, an assignment taskbar, and an option to view each period’s classmate names. The platform also has social features such as “Lunch Waves,” a method of making lunch plans with friends.

Sophomore Alexandra Doncheva is the founder and president of the RM Saturn chapter. Doncheva was originally encouraged by Saturn’s Growth Outreach Coordinator to launch the chapter. “[Saturn’s objective is] a great idea and was exactly what our school needed, especially now with online learning,” Doncheva said.

Chapter building was also aided by sophomores Cleopha Costa and Paola Rojas, both part of Saturn’s ambassador team.

Although the app is meant to help one keep track of school work, it is not affiliated with RM. Teachers are not registered on the platform. Student school emails are only used at log in to ensure that the student is assigned to their own school and have the correct schedule.

A user can personalize their profile by adding their classes into the calendar or choosing from a list of teachers. “I like the app because it shows your whole schedule and it’s on your phone so you won’t forget [classes],” said freshman Marlene Orantes.

Saturn‘s calendar is laid out into A, B, and C days, allowing for students to follow RM’s class schedule. Additionally, the app indicates to students when they have a half day or no school at all.

“Personally, my favorite features on Saturn are the countdown feature before and after each class, along with the Tasks board. I like how Saturn allows me to physically see when I need to be in class, down to the second,” Doncheva said.

The tasks tab allows students to organize assignments based on the classes they are taking. Users can take a photo of the assignment and indicate the assignment’s due date.

The RM Saturn team is continuing to develop the app by adding additional features. “Once we get a certain amount of students on the app, we will unlock a feature that will allow students to be able to message anyone on the app. [This] will be super convenient for asking peers in your class [any] questions about assignments.” said Doncheva.

In the meantime, users can contact their classmates on Saturn.  Users can link their social media accounts, including Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok and Venmo, to their profiles.
