What would happen if the world was coming to an end? The one-act “No Signal”, by seniors Adam Winchenbach and Tutor Postolache answers this question. The play follows three story lines: a nursing home, two dogs who have fallen in love, and Paul, a rich, carefree guy who was just dumped. In between these story lines, projections of newscasters count down to the end of the world.

“It was really weird at the beginning…we would kind of be walking and talking about ideas and different things to put in and different ways we would form the script,” Winchenbach said. The hardest part was writing the script, but after it was written, while the process could still be stressful, it was more fun as they were working with friends. His personal inspiration for the show started with the dog storyline. “I thought it would be kind of funny if we had characters playing dogs,” Winchenbach said. “I always like the idea of seriousness but with a layer of absurdity.”

As a director, Winchenbach has many responsibilities that he shares alongside Postolache. Winchenbach feels that his main responsibility is to help the actors realize what they need to do and figure out how to portray their characters. Winchenbach said, “What I think makes one-acts very special is the fact that we’re working with our friends and our colleagues.”
