What’s worse than a blind date? Six blind dates, of course.

The one act, “Check Please,” follows the journey of a guy and a girl who go on multiple blind dates. Each dinner date ends up going terribly, unsurprisingly so, since their dates range from raging kleptomaniacs to obsessive romantics. Originally written by Jonathan Rand, this romantic comedy is coming to RM’s own theater under the watchful eyes of seniors Becca Howlett and Jordyn Gershoni.

As co-directors of the show, both Howlett and Gershoni have an unending to-do list. “As an actor, you look at the trees, and as a director, you look at the forest.” Howlett said. They have to consider lighting, sound, sets, costumes, rehearsal, and everything else that the production process demands. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s fun,” Howlett said. “And I will not take for granted the amount of work the production team does.”

One of the most challenging aspects of this show is, surprisingly, costume changes. “We have two people that will be playing six different characters each,” co-director Gershoni said. This means that in the span of less than half an hour, the actors will be changing six sets of clothes. “Some very lucky costumes person will have a very stressful 28 minutes, but I think it’s going to be worth it,” Howlett said.

Although One Acts was started as a one-night-only special event to raise money for Richard Montgomery’s art department, for Howlett, it’s much more than a simple fundraiser. “There’s a really strong sense of community,” Howlett said, “And I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we’ve really enjoyed doing this.”
